What's a Creator-in-Residence?

Tokyo Wonder Site has been operating artist-in-residence programs for international creators working in creative fields such as art, design, music and architecture to stay, engage in creation and conduct research activities since 2006. TWS Residency provides opportunities for the creators to experience the unique environment in Tokyo, a city where tradition and leading-edge technologies and culture coexist. TWS Residency has served as a creative platform for creators in all stages of career to meet and generate interactive communication.

Diverse Residency Programs

TWS Residency provides a diverse range of exchange programs for creators of all ages and nationalities, working in any genre. Having developed an international network with art centers around the world through various collaboration projects, TWS hosts artists from overseas in Tokyo and send Japanese artists abroad to conduct research and create new projects. Creative people including artists, curators, researchers, musicians, performers, designers and architects experience the rich history and culture of Tokyo, conduct research, create art works and showcase the results of their residency at Open Studio. TWS Residency Programs provide opportunities for creators to interact not only with their peers but also with the general public through events, talks, open studios and workshops.

A new form of educational program in which world-renowned tutors are invited to work together with young creators on cross-genre projects linking the arts, music and design.

For creators who have ability not only to play a central part in cultural exchange with creators from all over the world, but also to produce works during their residency at TWS Residency.

International Nomination Program
