Purpose of the residency
I would like to construct and build paper bridge which would be rigid enough for one person to walk on it.
It's construction will be based on the Japanese tradition of using paper as a basic building material.
Proposed project is a continuation of a series of work titled "Drawings Of Something Completely Else"
I'm interesting in such understanding of a drawing which is designed to disrupt and complement existent spaces and eventually began to occupy entire rooms, blurring the physical boundary between drawing and sculpture. Drawing that literary squeeze into slits between objects becoming sculptural or architectonical installations becoming inseparable from the space, drawing that can be used and it's changing during using it.
Plan during the residency
During the residency perion I will perform a material research, experiments with different papers and cardboards than may be find locally. I will also research and document local paper crafts and techniques, visit local traditional paper manufactures and artists working with paper. I will also try to find local collaborators - architects or specialist in history of architecture. I will explore Japan architecture principles and it's approach to building construction and visit the examples of both traditional and modern architectural sites.
After finding the location for the project, designing the construction of the object, finding the material and the tools, and making the model the production stage wouls start. The work will be then presented to the public. After that the documentation ot the object will be taken.
