Call for On Site Lab Emerging Artist Support Program Music 2008 Application!
Tokyo Wonder Site (TWS) has been organizing concerts and contemporary music workshops by young musicians as Emerging Artist Support Program since 2004. Public subscription of this program, as it has been new attempt since 2006, will be continued in 2008. Selected program will be performed in January 2009 at TWS Hongo, and the making process will be supported by Tokyo Wonder Site. TWS is calling for the application this year. Please see the details.

The Schedule for the “international Ensemble Modern Academy 2008 at Tokyo Wonder Site” Has Been Announced!
The Schedule for the “International Ensemble Modern Academy 2008 at Tokyo Wonder Site”, opening in May 12 (Mon.), 2008, has been finally settled.
The academy welcomes Auditing Students (¥1,000 for 1day or ¥5,000 for all days). Those who join for all days (¥5,000) can listen the Concert by Participants at Tokyo Women’s Plaza in May 17 (Sat.), 2008 without admission.
The lecture by Mr. Steve Reich is scheduled. We are expecting to see all of you at the academy.

International Ensemble Modern Academy 2008
Members from one of the most renowned contemporary music ensembles in the world, Ensemble Modern, will be the teaching at the International Ensemble Modern Academy from May 12th to 17th. Tutors include special guest Steve Reich and sound design specialist Norbert Ommer among others.

Ensemble Modern
Founded in 1980 and situated in Frankfurt am Main since 1985, the Ensemble Modern (EM) is one of the world’s leading ensembles of New Music. Currently, the EM is comprised of 18 soloists from Argentina, Bulgaria, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Poland, and Switzerland, all of whom provide the ensemble with its rich cultural background.
The EM is famous for its special working and organizational form, which is unlike any other in the world. All the members are responsible for jointly selecting and dealing with artistic directors, projects, guest musicians, co-productions, and financial matters. Its unique and distinctive program consists of Music Theater, dance and video projects, chamber music, ensemble and orchestral concerts.
In past years, the EM has gone on tour to Russia, South America, Japan, Australia, India, Korea, Taiwan, and the United States. It regularly performs at renowned festivals and outstanding venues, such as the Lincoln Center Festival in New York, Festival d’Automne in Paris, Holland Festival in Amsterdam, Lucerne Festival, Klangspuren in Schwaz, Salzburg Festival, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Oper Frankfurt, Cologne Philharmonic Orchestra, Konzerthaus Berlin, Philharmonic Orchestra of Essen, and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.
The EM gives approximately 100 concerts each year. The musicians rehearse an average of 70 new works every year, 20 of which are world premieres.

Tokyo Wonder Site is calling for both international and Japanese creators who are planning to undergo cultural study or research based in Tokyo. Please apply to stay at Tokyo Wonder Site Aoyama Creator-in-Residence taking advantage of the Research Residence Program.

Residency Period: February 1st (Fri.) 2008 through March 31st (Mon.) 2008
Details: Within the time period above, for a period of more than 30 days,
creators will stay at the residence involved in studying and/or creating “Tokyo” themed artwork.
* Other than guest rooms, Tokyo Wonder Site will not provide any studio space.
Number of Applications to be Accepted: Limited to a small number of creators.
Eligibility:
1. Those applications accomplished in the fields of study and research, fine arts, performance arts,
music and design as well as those who expect to be involved in these fields in the future are eligible to stay at the residence.
2. Those planning to stay in Tokyo for the purpose of researching or creating cultures in “Tokyo”
who are willing to contribute to exchanges and developing.
Note: Participants are required to submit a report on their accomplishments on the completion of their stay.
3. The creator should be independent and capable of working and living on his/her own.
4. The creator should be able to speak and understand basic Japanese or English.
5. Creators who able to abide by Tokyo Wonder Site regulations whilst using the facility during any stay.
Selection Process:
The residence selection committee will select those that may stay at the residence after reviewing and taking into consideration each applicant’s achievements, abilities, character and reason for wanting to stay at the residence. Tokyo Wonder Site makes all final decisions regarding an applicant’s schedule during their stay at the residence.
Deadline for Applications:
Applications must be postmarked no later than 2007 November 5 (Mon.).

Scheduled Selection Dates:
•1st Selection stage: Applications will be reviewed by both the residence and an outside selection committee on Thursday November 15th (Thu.), 2007.
•2nd Selection stage: Final selections will made after deliberations by the residence selection committee near the end of November 2007.
The applicants approved at the 1st Selection will undergo a final review at the residence selection committee, which will decide whether they may stay at the residence.
Generally, each applicant will be notified by e-mail of the selection results near the end of December.

11/7 TWS Aoyama Creator-in-Residence has been launched as the third Tokyo Wonder Site
TWS Aoyama Creator-in-Residence was launched in 2006 as the third
Tokyo Wonder Site (TWS), in a central Tokyo district where many creative
people gather. The new facility functions as a base for the internationally
oriented creative activities of young artists from fields ranging from art
and design to music and others, in concert with the stimulating environment
of the Aoyama neighborhood.
