Profile

Yodogawa Technique is an art unit established by Hideaki Shibata (born in Okayama Prefecture, 1976 - ) and Kazuya Matsunaga (born in Kumamoto Prefecture, 1977 - ) in 2003. Based in Yodo River in Osaka, their activities focus mainly on creating objects using garbage and items drifted to the riverbank. Their technique of transforming garbage into art objects always surprises viewers. They stay as creator resident at a particular area to create objects out of garbage that are unique to the area with the local people. They won the grand prize at "Kirin Art Project 2005", the silver prize at "GEISAI-5", also participation in "TWINISM" (2009) that are held conjointly in Osaka and Hamburg in Germany, "KITA!" (Japan Contemporary Art Exhibition, 2008) in Indonesia, and "Busan Biennale" (2006) have drawn public attentions to their works.
