Profile

Born in Okayama in 1978. After graduating from Musashino Art University in 2001, he traveled for 4 years throughout Japan to take photographs of war remains; the photos were published in his photo book titled "Bunkers" (Littlemore, 2005). Since 2005 he has been working on two series: Sunday Painter, which features his journey to look for his grandfather's paintings; and torii, an ongoing travel along the borderline of Japan. His works were shown at solo exhibitions including "Sunday Painter" (Art Tower Mito CRITERIUM 79, Ibaraki, 2010) and "Dusk/Dawn" (Nap gallery, Tokyo, 2011), and group exhibitions including "VOCA" (the Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, 2008) and "ATOMIC SUNSHINE" (Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum, Okinawa, 2009).
He believes that seeing and feeling the actual thing is important, which allows him to explore the memory of scenery and to determine what fades away and what stays. He uses photographs, writings, diagrams and maps to illustrate the scenery through the aspects of archeology and presence.
