Born in Miyagi, Japan, 1976. BA in Journalism at Ithaca College (2001) and MFA in Photography, Video & Related Media at School of Visual Arts (2004). Kanako Sasaki received the scholarship from the studying-abroad program for emerging artists by Agency for Cultural Affairs and studied at Royal College of Art in 2006. Her works are exhibited both at home and abroad. Including Okinawa Ark, which was selected for the Shiseido Art Egg Award 2009, her recent exhibitions are "UKIYO", a solo show at Guardian Garden in Tokyo, "Landscape Lululu", a group show at Shizuoka Prefecture Museum of Art, and "War and Art" at Gallery Aube at Kyoto University of Art and Design.

She weaves memories of places and people, and those histories as new stories in her photography and video works. For instance, her self-portrait series induce viewers imagine the stories of each photograph; also in her history project, she places herself in the contexts of historical events and affairs, and portrays them as her own reality.
