Didn't we all have a hero, someone we particularly admired when we were little? Someone who overcame many difficulties to give us hope for the future? My hero was my uncle, who went to war long ago and died of starvation. It was I who turned my uncle into a hero, and he taught me how to live. The time he was born, the environment he lived in, and the war he died in. It all seemed so different from my own experiences, and yet somehow similar. No matter how disadvantaged we may be, no matter how hopeless our situation, we have to make the best of it and go on living. Every day we make decisions, make choices, and move on. I guess it was that image. That's probably what I was attracted to. Crudely, I sketch that hero. Like a child trying to duplicate a person she idolizes.
