A support program for aspiring planners and curators launched in 2006, calling for applications from young exhibition organizers with project proposals. In the past, the applications have not only come from curators but also from artists with their own self-produced project plans. Many of those artists' self-produced exhibition outlines have presented innovative ideas beyond existing genres in art.
Three projects from 44 exciting applications from young curators and self-producing artists were selected for the Emerging Artist Support Program 2010.

ELASTIC VIDEO - curated by PLINQUE
 
Since 2008, a team of young Vienna-based artists and theorists - Markus Hanakam, Claudia Larcher, Roswitha Schuller, Liddy Scheffknecht and Armin B. Wagner - have been realizing temporary exhibitions, under the name PLINQUE. Every show they organize takes place in a different location and is made for a specific context and setting.
 
Operating under the concept of "Elastic Video", PLINQUE is showing a series of video works at TWS Hongo. PLINQUE'S concept of video is not restricted to the typical projection of a moving image, but expands into the area of video-sculpture, site-specific video montage and video-installation. Elastic Video stretches the concepts of current and traditional trends in multimedia art and presents the artworks as a collective video installation.
 
In their short film Invasion, Hanakam & Schuller focus on the apparatus in cinema theory. Dejan Kaludjerovic evokes an uncanny atmosphere by projecting a filmed person directly onto the floor. Claudia Larcher's surrealistic and site-specific Video animation Hongo, produced especially for this show, plays with architectural construction and the gaze of the spectator in the exhibition space. In her installation Manuela Mark refers to the tradition of origami. Her work, in which she combines washi, a Japanese paper and digital technology, is a meditative and joyful research of space and our perception of light.  Bernd Oppl shows a model of a room vehemently shaken by an electric motor. The interior of the room is filmed in such a way that it appears completely static while four black balls inside the room move without any perceptible rules. Liddy Scheffknecht probes in her work the borders between photography and the moving image by projecting a video animation on a photograph. Armin Wagner's artwork is a reconfiguration of shop-worn gimmickry, questioning current trends of faked three-dimensionality and multi-perspectivity.

Claudia Larcher

1979 born in Bregenz, Austria; lives and works as an artist and curator in Vienna, Austria. Has co-curated the exhibitions of PLINQUE since 2008.
Kunsthalle Wien Award 2008 for the animation HEIM. Studio Grant of the Austrian Cultural Ministry in Tokyo 2010.
