Zhang Xiaogang is one of the most widely recognized artists on the Chinese contemporary art scene. He has long been addressing the themes fo blood connection and family memory, as well as modern Chinese society in flux, through portrait paintings based on old family photos. One example of the broadening scope of Zhang's activities is the use of his work in the film "Sunflower." Zhang also held his first solo exhibition in Japan at TWS. Presented here were his "Bloodline" and "Comrades" series of paintings and lithographs, which depict Chinese families with a unique touch; and his new "Narratoin" series, made up of photos on which he etches handwritten text.
